The Seafarers’ Association of Odisha (SAO), a first of its kind initiative and common deck for entire marine community of the State, felicitated International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Director Captain Ashok Mahapatra here on Saturday for his inspiring role in representing the glorious maritime history of India at many international levels.
SAO president Captain Navin Sarma presided over the function and advisor Dr Purnendu Misra also addressed the gathering. SAO general secretary Captain Alok Patra thanked Capt Mahapatra and all mariners.
Capt Mahapatra was the Deputy Nautical Advisor at the Ministry of Shipping before taking up the assignment at the IMO as the Director of Marine Safety Division. He represented India at the international level and brought glory to the marine community of Odisha while holding the coveted position at the IMO.
