Kolkata-based Seacom Marine College has introduced a 17-week Electro-Technical Officer’s (ETO) course for the first time in eastern India.

The residential course will be followed by a mandatory on-board training. It is the only college which has been granted approval to conduct the course in eastern India. The ETO programme, which has been adopted by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and approved by the Union Government’s Directorate General Shipping, will become effective from January 1.

Seacom Group chairman Anish Chakraborty said the course fee is only `4.5 lakh. On successful completion of the course, a student would be immediately absorbed in the industry with a starting salary of `60,000 to `1 lakh a month in India and USD 1,500 to USD 2,000 in foreign flag vessels.
