The authorities of the Samanta Chandrasekhar (SCS) Autonomous College in Puri on Friday closed the college sine die following student unrest ahead of the students’ union elections scheduled on October 11. The authorities cancelled the polls in the wake of students’ protest against rejection of nomination papers of a section of candidates. Earlier in the day, angry students gheraoed the college Principal. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. On Thursday night, bombs had been also hurled at the girls’ hostel of the college. In view of all this, the authorities declared sine die and asked students to vacate hostels by evening.
