Journalists of Puri district on Saturday took out a silent procession on the Bada Danda protesting the attack on journalists during the Niladri Bije ritual of lord Jagannath on last Sunday.
The scribes demanded arrest of all the accused persons involved in the attack. They pleaded that the State should ensure safety and security of the journalists who were an integral part of the democracy and render valuable services to the public as well as to the Government.
The scribes also demanded that a journalist security bill should be brought in the State Assembly with provisions of stringent punishment to the attackers like the medical security Bill for the interest of the society at large.
They appealed to the public to exert pressure on the Government to bring up the Bill at the earliest.
Senior journalists Gajendra Maharana, Jagannath Bastia, RK Mohanty, Prasanta Mahapatra, Rudra Sigh, Bijay Pattnaik, Pradymna Sathua,
Pradipta Mohanty, Madhusuddan Mishra, Gopal Tiwary, Biswajit Pattnaik and many others participated in the demonstration.
