About a dozen of reporters and youth activists led by senior journalist –cum- Odia poet, Matrudutta Mohanty , by forming ‘Nation Build Campaign (Rasthra Nirman Abhijan)' started  the statue cleaning.

Taking broomsticks and water  jugs along with detergent powder, they carried out the cleaning works of statues of Subaha Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr BR Ambedkar, Gopabandhu Dash, Dinabandhu Sahu and Sarojkanta Kanungo among others. The motto of the Rasthra Nirman Abhijan is to pay respect and tribute to the freedom fighters  and the sons of the soil ,whose statues lie neglected in the district.

“We started the work last week. This is the second time we have carried out the statue cleaning work in the township. We have decided to clean the statues by giving three to four hours per week,” said scribe Biren Das.
