Veteran journalist and former president of Sambalpur Press Club Prasanta Mohanty passed away here on Friday afternoon at the age of 84. He was quite hale and hearty till last. He had been admitted in the Draupadi Nursing Home for treatment of diabetes.
Mohanty began his career from Odia daily ‘Kalinga’. later, he worked for ‘Hindustan Standard’ and finally joined ‘Samaja’.
During his tenure as president of the Sambalpur Press Club, the main building of the club was constructed. He was also quite popular all over western Odisha.
Mediapersons to common people and VIPs expressed deep condolence over Mohanty’s death. His cremation would be performed on Saturday at the Sambalpur Swargdwar after arrival of his relatives.
Mohanty is survived by wife Dr Narayani Panda, a reputed gynaecologist of the State.
