The Khamar police on Friday arrested a journalist on the charge of threatening, blackmailing and harassing the Khamar Community Health Centre (CHC) Medical Officer.
The Medical Officer Shashikanta Behera in his complaint alleged that web portal and a daily vernacular newspaper reporter Khageswar Pingua was blackmailing him to expose the “corruption” in the CHC and demanding money.
He also harassed Behera over the phone. When he refused, Pingua abused him in filthy language and threatened to kill him, Behera alleged in his FIR.
The police after lodging a case under Sections 294/384/353/506/34 of the IPC arrested Pingua and forwarded him to court. As the bail plea of the accused was rejected, he was sent to judicial custody.
