Even as the murder of  a 7-year-old girl of the Baliapal area has rocked the State, Chairperson of the Odisha State  Commission for  Protection of Child Rights Sandhyabati Pradhan  visited  the village of the deceased on Wednesday.

She during her visit to Jambhirai village of Baliapal block took stock of the situation and talked to the district level officers, police officials and villagers. Pradhan told the recurring instances of missing and murder of children in the State was a matter of serious concern. She  observed that a rapid study  across the State would be conducted related to the crime against the children and a SOP would be issued.

“The protection of children against any kind of abuses and atrocities is the responsibility of all including the Home department, DG police, district level officers, including the SP, the Collector and the elected representatives.

After making a rapid study on the issue, we would issue an advisory for all concerned to prevent occurrence of such incidents,” said Pradhan. It may be noted that the 7-year-old girl was missing since Friday whose body with throat slit was  recovered  on Monday from an abandoned and secluded grassy patch after the accused , a distant maternal uncle of the deceased, led to the spot following his interrogation.

The child, as per confession of the accused,  was murdered as she accidentally witnessed his uncle in compromising position with a woman ( wife of cousin brother)   fearing she might divulge the matter to others.

The police arresting the main accused Dipak Sahu alias Nata and his paramour Basumati for murdering the minor and dumping her body had forwarded him to court on Tuesday.
