In the wake of the heat wave throwing life out of gear in many parts of the State, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Tuesday announced an early summer vacation.
Schools across the State would remain closed from Wednesday till June 18, said School and Mass Education Minister Badri Naryan Patra. Earlier, the department had decided to declare the holidays from May 4. The Government’s decision followed a forecast of the Regional Office of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) that the heat wave conditions would intensify further.
In most of the places in the State, the mercury has been soaring above 40 degree Celsius for the last several days. The maximum temperature in the western parts continued to cross even the 42 degrees Celsius-mark.
