Police on Saturday arrested a youth for allegedly raping a Class-VIII girl in Bhadrak district. The accused was identified as Niranjan Jena (26), a resident of Paliabindha panchayat under the Tihidi police station in the district.
Jena was booked under Section 376(3) of IPC and section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family.
Sources said the youth dragged the girl behind a temple and raped her while she was returning home from market after purchasing some groceries on Thursday evening.
After committing the crime, he fled from the spot. Later, the victim narrated the incident before her parents following which a case was lodged against the accused.
