Protesting against the merger of Gayaspur Primary School, the guardians and school students staged a road blockade on Angulai-Ortaghat road on Monday near Gayaspur by barricading the road with bamboo. The communication was disrupted for five hours.
They alleged that while many schools with less than 20 students strength are allowed to run, Gayaspur Primary school has been merged illegally though its students strength is 47.
As long as the Education Department does not cancel the merging order of the school, the stir would continue, the agitators warned.
The ABEO, Mahakalapada later rushed to the spot and assured the agitators of looking into their demands within a week. Later, the road blockade was called off and vehicular traffic was normal.
