School locked; teachers, guardians hold stir

Demanding arrest of the miscreant who let loose a reign of terror by brandishing a revolver to the teachers and detained them on Wednesday afternoon inside the school premises of Senior Basic Government School of Kusiapala, the students, guardians and the school teachers on Thursday locked the school gate and staged a blockade on Kusiapala road.

The agitators were in no mood to relent and open the school unless accused Bhamara Patra was arrested. On the day, when teachers were virtually taken hostage by Patra, panicked students escaped from the school in a narrow lane.

According to the agitated students, they were feeling insecure to go to school after the incident took place. “When the teachers were not felling secure at the school, who would provide security and would take the responsibility of our childrenIJ There is every possibility that the miscreant would come once again to the school as he threatened one of the school teachers to face his wrath,” alleged Babaji Nath, a guardian

According to Headmistress of Senior Basic Government School of Kusiapala Saraswati Kundu, Patra of nearby Khasapadia village came to the school in an inebriated condition by guarding two other of his associates outside the school gate. He allegedly asked one Akhaya Kumar Pothal, ZPT (Zilla Parisad Teacher), to come near him. When he did not pay any heed to his direction, Patra brandished a revolver that he kept inside his waist pocket and terrorised the ZPT. He also threatened to kill him. Pothal later shouted for help, as a result the other teachers came to his rescue, but Patra terrorized all them and created a panic atmosphere at the school premises.

Meanwhile, though more than 24 hours have been passed but the police are groping in dark to nab the miscreant. Headmistress Saraswati Kundu also filed an FIR at Kendrapada police station in this regard.

SDPO Purna Chandra Pradhan and BEO of Derabish block Surama Mohaptra on Thursday paid a visit to the school and discussed with the teachers and guardians of the students about the ongoing problem of the school.

The BEO also assured the agitated guardians that she would take steps to fill the permanent headmaster post in the school. SDPO Pradhan assured to arrest the miscreant within a week and provide patrolling during the class hour.
