In view of the rising cases of elephant deaths in the State, the Government has decided to come up with a new scheme called ‘Gajabandhu Yojana’ soon, said Chief Wildlife Warden Ajay Mohapatra here on Saturday.
Mohapatra said that common people would be engaged in the scheme. People would be given cash reward for providing information on movement of elephants.
Besides, speed CCTVs and speed breakers would be installed in elephant corridors across the State.
Notably, in the latest major elephant death incident, three jumbos were killed in a road accident in Keonjhar district on August 22.
A herd of 10 elephants, while crossing NH-20 near Balijodi under the Ghatagaon Forest Range, were hit by a speeding truck and a bus in late night.
While two of them, including a female calf, died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment the next day.
