Aggrieved students of the SCB Nursing School on Wednesday postponed their agitation after a discussion with Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak here on Wednesday.
“The Minister assured us that he would ensure justice to us. Hence, we put our 18-day-long agitation on hold from today,” said a nursing student.
“We started our agitation on May 8 protesting against the misbehaviour of our Principal and also against the sine die closure of our institute. Since then, we have met concerned officials several times. But nothing has come out of these meetings. We had decided to start a 24X7 dharna from today. But this morning, the Health Minster called us and assured us to give us justice. Therefore, we are postponing our stir,” said a student, who was part of the delegation which met the Minister.
Another nursing student, who referred to the misbehaviour charge against the Principal Kajal Rani Sinha, said, “After 17-18 days of our strike, the Health Minster today gave assurance to consider our demands.” Notably, the nursing students have been demanding dismissal of the Principal and lifting of the indefinite closure of the school.
The students had filed complaints against the Principal at the Mangalabag police in Cuttack accusing her of harassing them physically and mentally and making cattiest remarks. The police have already booked the Principal on a complaint filed by a victim student.
