More than 15 junior doctors of the SCB Medical College Hospital here on Monday allegedly abducted the wife of a patient, her father and another relative; abused them confining to a room and mercilessly thrashed them over a trivial issue of vacating a bed.
Since the hospital is out of bounds for mediapersons, the hospital authorities were not picking up calls or not responding to the requests to call back. Similarly, the local police too were silent over the issue.
While the victims have already lodged a written complaint in the Medical outpost, it was not known till this report was prepared whether a case was registered or not. Sources said strategies were being worked out to file a counter-FIR by the doctors to complicate the issue further.
The incident happened in afternoon in a ward of orthopaedic department where one Kuber Ray (35) of Puri district was undergoing treatment for over three weeks after he had met with a road accident.
A junior doctor of the department asked Ray to vacate the bed he was occupying, but Ray’s wife said her husband could not move since there was no male relative with her in the ward. The doctor allegedly abused Ray’s wife Kumudini in foul language.
later when Kumudini’s father and another relative arrived at the ward and reasoned with the concerned doctor, an argument ensued and soon 10 to 15 doctors reached the spot, abused and beat up all three of them after confining them to a room, said a relative of the patient.
