Alleging police inaction over last month’s attack on them by a group of junior doctors of the SCB Medical College Hospital, one Pradyumna Kishore Rout of the city has approached the Orissa High Court seeking justice.
A group of doctors on May 29 had allegedly confined three attendants of a patient, including Pradyumna in a room of orthopedic department of the hospital and beat them up mercilessly using filthy language. The patient Kuber Ray’s wife Kumudini was too manhandled by the arrogant doctors.
On a written complaint by the victims, the local Mangalabag police had booked eight doctors of the hospital on charges attempt to murder, theft, wrongful restraint and confinement. Similarly, on a complaint by the doctors, the police had also registered a counter case against the complainants.
Alleging that even after ten days of the incident, the police have not made any significant progress in investigating into the case, Pradyumna has moved the High Court against the police inaction and seeking justice
On the other hand police claim that they have already examined and recorded the statements of the patient and their attendants, including other patients of the ward. Police also claim that they have obtained injury reports of the injured persons.
But police are yet to interrogate the accused doctors in the matter. “We have asked the hospital authorities to provide us the details of the doctors, who are named in the FIR. But the hospital authorities are not cooperating in the matter,” said a senior city police officer.
