SCB College sexual harassment slur probe not progressing

A four-member team of the State Women Commission (SWC) visited the SCB Medical College and Hospital here on Thursday to begin probe into the alleged sexual harassment brought against a college professor by some junior women doctors.

While the tainted professor has gone on leave, the SWC members met some of the complainants and said they would submit a report to the commission after making a thorough probe into the allegations.

It may be mentioned that at least ten post-graduation girl students had brought the sexual and intimidation slur against a professor of the pathology department of the medical college.

The victim students have also lodged a written complaint before city DCP Sanjib Arora, who in turn has referred it to the local Mangalabag police station for investigation after registering a case.

The police are yet to begin investigations into the matter as the local police station is badly affected by acute staff shortage, said city ACP Bidyut Kumar Panda. At least three officers of the police station are currently in Hyderabad in connection with the sensational kidney sale case.

Similarly, a six-member in-house committee formed by the medical college to probe into the matter is also a nonstarter. It is learnt that the victim junior doctors are reluctant to depose before the in-house committee apprehending that they would not get proper justice from the in-house committee members, who are colleagues of the tainted professor.
