The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed MBBS admissions in 100 seats in the Hi-Tech Medical and Hospital, Rourkela and 50 seats in the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Bhubaneswar for alleged violation of norms.
The Apex Court issued the stay order while hearing a petition in this regard. The Court has directed the Hi-Tech Medical College to submit a reply within four weeks of it order.
A few days ago, the State Government had announced to knock the Supreme Court over the ‘illegal’ MBBS seat admissions done by the Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital. The Government alleged that the Hi-Tech Medical College admitted students in 100 MBBS seats in violation of norms, which require that medical colleges would undertake admission processes through the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE).
The Hi-Tech Medical College filled up 100 MBBS seats by giving admissions to students without consulting the OJEE, the State Government alleged.
Similar irregularities were too alleged in admission process of the KIIMs, reports said.
The State Government is mulling to file three leave petitions against private medical colleges soon, sources said.
