The Supreme Court has ordered an interim stay on the Orissa High Court’s order of banning animal sacrifice during the Chhatar Yatra in Kalahandi district.
The HIgh Court had on January 6 imposed the ban on sacrifice of animals and birds in and around the precincts of the Maa Manikeshwari temple at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district during the festival.
Petitioner Bhawani Shankar Nial had moved the apex court seeking an interim direction so that animal sacrifice ritual would be performed.
