SC, ST teachers warn to quit hostel duty from April

Published on:
Elementary teachers working under the ST and SC Development Department have warned that they would stop doing hostel management duties from April 1 if the State Government doesn’t fulfil their six-point charter of demands by then. Members and office bearers of the All Odisha Elementary Teachers Association, ST and SC Development Department, in its executive body meeting held here demanded recognition to 15,000 teachers working under the department, hike in grade pay at par with the School and Mass Education Department and limiting working hour duration to eight hours only.
They also resented that the State Government has been unnecessarily holding the teachers responsible whenever an inmate dies in the hostel and forcing them work for 24 hours. “We have decided to abstain from hostel management duty from April 1 if our demands are not met by then,” said association president Madanmohan Hota and general secretary Tumanath Nayak in a release.
