SC, ST MlAs stage dharna at CM office

Published on:

SC and ST MlAs belonging to the Opposition parties on Tuesday staged a dharna in front of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s chamber in the State Assembly premises demanding 38 per cent reservation in Government jobs, in admission to schools and colleges and in all other sectors.

MlAs like Bhujabal Majhi, Kailash Chandra Kuleshika and Dr Prafulla Majhi led by leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra sat on the dharna.

“The reservation in Government jobs, promotions and admission to different courses should be in accordance with the population. While population belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe together stand at around 38 per cent, the reservation availed to them is very negligible,” alleged the leaders.

Speaker Niranjan Pujari in a ruling said no leader can stage any dharna and protest meeting inside the Assembly premises. However, he directed the SC and ST Development Minister to call them to his chamber and hold discussion regarding their demands.
