SC slaps Rs5-crore penalty on KIMS

Published on:

The Supreme Court on Friday imposed a fine of Rs5 crore on the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) for admitting students without proper facilities and violating Medical Council of India (MCI) guidelines.

The Apex court also directed to deposit the amount within six weeks and made it clear that the amount should not be collected from students.

It further directed the KIMS authorities to limit the student strength within 100 for next two years.

Notably, the private medical college had admitted 150 students for two straight years a few years ago allegedly violating the MCI guidelines.

The order came as a warning for other private medical institutes in the State which are admitting students without offering basic facilities and avoiding MCI guidelines.
