In a major respite to DGP KV Singh, the Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a public interest litigation (PIl) challenging his appointment as Odisha Police head by Utkal Bharat president and former MP Kharavela Swain.
According to reports, a three-member bench of the apex court rejected the PIl which opposed Singh’s appointment as DGP for his alleged involvement in the Prakash Mishra controversy.
In July 2015, Swain had filed a petition at the Khordha District Court alleging that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had directed the Vigilance to file a false corruption case against Mishra with mala fide intention of breaking his chance of being appointed as CBI Director. KB Singh was then serving as Vigilance Director.
In later developments, the Orissa High Court as well as the Supreme Court had criticised Singh for falsely implicating Mishra in a graft case.
Mishra came out clean and was later appointed as the CRPF DG.
Singh was appointed as DGP replacing Sanjeev Marik, who had nearly two months to retire from Government service.
