The Supreme Court on Monday said it would not monitor the probe being conducted by the CBI into the mega chit fund scam in Odisha. The court passed the order after hearing an interim application of Alok Jena, on whose public interest petition the apex court last year ordered the CBI inquiry into the scam.
According to Jena, the Bench comprising Justice TS Thakur and Justice C Nagappan wanted to know from the CBI counsel about the status of the probe. The court said the cases were transferred to the CBI after the request of the petitioner. Therefore, it is now not necessary that the court should monitor the investigation, it added.
It also advised the petitioner or investors to produce evidences or documents available with them before the CBI to help the agency in its probe. It is learnt that Odisha and West Bengal might file the status of the CBI investigations in the respective States very soon with documentary evidences and information. Senior counsel Shyam Divan, Amicus Curiae in the case, was also present in the court.
