The annual general body meeting of the Ganjam District Cricket Association (GDCA), affiliated to the Odisha Cricket Association, was held at the Brahmapur Stadium on Sunday. Founder-president of GDCA Srikant Panda was given a rousing welcome for his contributions in the field of cricket in the district.

GDCA members strongly demanded that the Brahmapur Stadium be made a full-fledged one with state-of-the-art facilities so that national and international level sports events are held here. The Government has reportedly allocated Rs 90 lakh against an earlier estimation of Rs 50 lakh for development of the Stadium’s ground, renovation of the pitch, construction of a practice pitch and new pitches for football and hockey.

The GDCA general body unanimously elected the following new office-bearers for 2013-14: Supreme Court advocate Ramesh Chandra Patra president, P Dillip Kumar Patra vice-president, Manoj Kumar Singh secretary in-charge, Trilochan Panigrahi and Debendra Biswal joint secretaries and Pradeep Kumar Das treasurer.

All-out efforts would be made to make cricket popular in the district including attracting more and more enthusiastic and talented youths to the cricket team, said new president Patra.
