The Supreme Court on Thursday granted bail to two accused involved in the brutal murder of Balangir-based journalist Parsuram Satpathy on November 29, 1974.

The accused, Prasanna Pal and Artatrana Singhdeo, would be released from Balangir jail after the jail authorities receive the release order from the Supreme Court.

Notably, the Balangir police had registered cases against nine accused for their involvement in the murder of Satpathy who was run over by a jeep on November 29, 1974.

The accused were let off by the local court in Balangir and later by the Odisha High Court.

However, following the directive of the Supreme Court, the High Court on May 5 this year had convicted the accused after a gap of 40 years and awarded them the life term.

Since six accused had died during the period, the three living accused, Prasanna Pal, Artatrana Singhdeo and Dhobei Podha, were remanded to Balangir jail.
