An ex-Service man, a recipient of prestigious Veer Chakra award from the Indian Army, who fought bravely against enemies in different crucial points, including Kargil, is now fighting for justice from the State Bank of India (SBI) where he worked as a security personnel after retirement.
For his bravery and talent in tactfully confronting enemies, he was recalled during the Kargil war even after retirement and showed his acumen there too. He bears several bullet injuries on different parts of his body that are clearly visible.
But bank authorities are not prepared to give justice to such a person and even after two times clear cut orders by the Orissa High Court, on some plea or other. The bank has faced contempt of court case, but still remains nonchalant.
As per information, Rasananda Mohapatra after retirement from the Indian Army had joined as a security personnel under SBI in Sambalpur district in the year 1992. But 10 years after, to his utter surprise, the bank authorities reduced his salary almost by a half. Mohapatra knocked at the door of the Orissa High Court for justice.
On different occasions, the court directed the SBI authorities to pay him his dues as per the norms. When nothing happened, Mohapatra filed contempt of court. In the first case, the bank authorities requested for another two months.
While allowing the request, the court again ordered the bank to finalise the case within two months. But after completion of the two months, nothing was done by the bank in giving justice to Mohapatra for which he along with other supporters sat in a dharna in front of the zonal office of the bank at Ainthapali.
“I am totally disheartened for such attitude of the bank,” said Mohapatra.
When asked about the reasons for non-compliance of HC order in time, AGM SN Jena said, “We are consulting our law department and seniors on the matter.”
