SBI harasses S’garh loanee entrepreneur

While the Union Government in a spree to encourage the young entrepreneurs to start their own business taking financial assistance from banks, the State Bank of India, Bonai branch has shown apathy towards a borrower.

The bank is not only putting the borrower in trouble but is also not following the instructions of the Orissa High Court.

Sources said one Sunil Dehury of Jakeikela village under Boneigarh police station has taken loans for 12 passenger buses in different times since 2009 from SBI, Bonei branch. The loans of eight buses have been cleared and the rest four buses are yet to be cleared.

Initially, Dehury family was paying the instalments regularly but due to certain problems they could not pay six instalments. But meanwhile the bank has seized the buses.

Despite repeated request to resolve the issue, the bank management has become rigid to auction the vehicles and accordingly the date was fixed for December 28 last.

Having no other way, Dehury filed a petition in the Orissa High Court and hearing the case, the court ordered the bank management to provide an opportunity to the borrower for one time settlement and if it fails, then the let the borrower arrange a third party who will buy the seized vehicles. The HC asked the bank to end the process by December 26.

So while sending the copy of the court order to the AGM, SBI Stressed Asset Recovery Branch, Sambalpur, by post, the borrower went to the SBI, Bonai personally to hand over the copy and request to set a date for amicable settlement as directed by the HC. But instead of receiving the copy and showing politeness, the bank authority misbehaved and threatened to auction the mortgage properties, alleged Dehury.

So having no other way, the borrower has lodged an FIR in Bonai PS against the bank authority.

Though in between the court deadline is over, no response from the bank has been received. Due to this, the borrower is not only in panic but also incurred loss as the buses remain stranded for long days.

Besides, the employees of the buses are also jobless and facing a lot of constraints to manage their families. In the meantime, Dehury is planning to move to the HC again to file a contempt case.
