Save the Children has started its relief operation following cyclone Phailin and resultant flood in various districts. The organisation is supplying hygiene and sanitary kits, tarpaulins and Chhatua to the affected households.
The family kit consists of medicated mosquito net, bucket, mug, jug, sanitary towel, washing powder, tooth paste tooth brush, candles, etc, for a family size of six, including three children.
“Children are the most vulnerable in any disaster situation. We began our relief work with families in the most-affected block of Chikiti in Ganjam,” said State program manager of the organisation Sasanka Kumar Padhi.
The organisation plans to reach out to around 10,000 affected families in districts, including Ganjam, Kendrapada and Baleswar.
Besides, a sector-wise assessment would be conducted in the affected districts for a more detailed analysis on child protection, education and health and nutrition providing in-depth analysis to design a full recovery plan, informed CEO of the organisation Thomas Chandy.
