SAT for age respite to contract teacher aspirants

Published on:

While the agitation of axed contract teachers in the State is on, the Cuttack Bench of the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) in a significant ruling on Thursday ordered modification in the 2014 notification of the Government on appointment of contract teachers.

The Bench of the tribunal’s judicial and administrative members ordered the Government to come out with a fresh notification for recruitment of contract teachers by relaxing the upper age limit. The age relaxation would be only for the current year, the SAT clarified.

The tribunal also ordered the government to complete the recruitment process within two months from the date of the order, which was kept reserved since November 24 last after concluding the hearing.

The Government last year had decided to reduce the maximum age limit of the aspirants from 42 to 32 and a minimum of 50 percent in the graduation for eligibility to apply for the contract teachers post.

Several aspirants challenging these two eligibility criteria had approached the SAT seeking modification. Refusing to interfere in the qualification criteria, the tribunal, however, considered the maximum age limit for one time only.
