Sasan canal breach hits hundreds of farmers

Published on:

A breach in the Sasan canal near Talab village caused crop loss to hundreds of farmers. The breach was about 15 feet. Executing Engineer Y Parida said, “The canal officials after knowing the matter stopped water supply and repaired the breach. Water supply has again been revived.”

Parida added that no private crop loss was noticed due to the breach. Only those farmers who cultivated in Government and canal land close to the embankment faced damage but then the damage was not to a great extent, he informed.

“Holes in the canal embankment due to snake and rat normally cause the breach. At the same time, demand from farmers to release extra water more than capacity also adds to the problem,” said another officer of the canal department.
