In yet another incident of the deteriorating law and order situation in Niali block of Cuttack district, a youth was critically injured as some unidentified miscreants fired at him in Sadansa gram panchayat on Wednesday, triggering tension in the locality.
The victim, identified as Susanta Mohanty, has been admitted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack and his condition is stated to be stable. He is the son of Sansada gram panchayat sarpanch Arta Mohanty.
While the motive behind the attack was yet to be ascertained, police suspect that Susanta might have been attacked over political rivalry. The Miscreants opened fire at him while he was supervising a road construction work in the panchayat.
It may be noted that many incidents of firing, bombing and arson were reported in Niali during the panchayat elections. Meanwhile, police rushed to the spot and started investigations.
