Exposing corruption by a Sarpanch by a man of the panchayat has cost him dear. If sources are to be believed, one Umakanta Mallick of Dhumat Sasan got to know from RTI information that lakhs of rupees had been sanctioned for different projects in panchayat. But they were bungled. Especially, he found massive irregularities in name of digging ponds. Later, he started informing locals by affixing poster and also sharing RTI information through social media. According to police sources, while Umakant was affixing  a poster in an electric pole on Friday afternoon, one Bikash Mallick , supporter of Dhumat sarpanch ,allegedly opposed him and scuffled with him. Later, Hapi Mallick, Mithun Mallick, Gagan Mallick and Rabindra Mallick, who were associates of Bikash and supporters  of Narahari Pani, the Sarpanch  of Dhumat Gram panchayat, reached at spot and went on assaulting  to Umakant. When Umakant’s uncle, Adeitya , made an attempt to rescue his nephew, he also was not spared and sustained head injuries.  Later,  the Sarpanch’s supporters went on assaulting family members of Umakanta also. While Umakanta lodged an FIR in this connection, Sarpanch Narahari Pani also lodged an FIR at Nikirai police station alleging that Debadutta Jena, Pankaj Sahu, Umakant Mallick and Debashis Swain were trying to defame him as Panchayat poll is round corner and also were extorting money from him in regular intervals. When contacted, Pattamundai SDPO Sandhyarani Beuria informed that two cases have been registered and an investigation was underway.
