Sarkhel made president of port DlR body

Bapi Sarkhel has taken over as the new president of the Paradip Port DlR and Contract Workmen’s Association. The 298-member association here had been registered in 2011. The beleaguered DlRs, who have been deprived of their legitimate demands since years, have elected Sarkhel to this post.

After his election, Sarkhel said he would give priority to the interest of the port DlRs in coming days, adding that economic development of the DlR workers would be his primary aim.

It may be noted that by the efforts of Sarkhel, the salaries of the contractual workers at the IOCl depot, Goa Carbon employees and labourers working at the railway side of the Goa Carbon company were recently increased by 113 per cent, 65 per cent and 75 per cent, respectively.
