Sarkhel hails PPl promise to give jobs to locals

Paradip-Erasama Industrial Estate Workers’ Union president Bapi Sarkhel has urged the Paradeep Phosphates limited (PPl) authorities to go ahead with new workers’ appointment as per conditions made to the union recently.

Earlier, the union had opposed the PPl’s plan to appoint 150 new contractual workers to increase its production at a tripartite meeting held among the PPl authorities, the district administration and the union. Sarkel had argued that PPl shouldn’t make new appointments by neglecting locals.

Meanwhile, the district administration has assured Sarkel that wages and regular status of the existing workers would not be hampered due to the new appointments and youths belonging to displaced and land loser families of PPl and unemployed youths of Paradip would be given appointments only. Similarly, it assured that talks would be held with existing workers to sort out their problems soon. “In the context of the written commitments, the PPl can go ahead with new appointments,” said Sarkhel.
