A day after Minister Damodar Rout alleged that Congress leader Bapi Sarkhel has fled after an arrest warrant issued by a court in Kolkata, Sarkhel on Thursday countered Rout, saying he and his family members were benefitted from the Astha chit fund firm.
“Damababu’s son and daughter have taken money and an SUV car from the Astha chit fund firm. I have information with me that while Damababu’s daughter has taken Rs20 lakh, his son has taken a SUV car worth Rs 1.5 crore,” said Sarkhel.
He further alleged that Rout as Excise Minister has collected lakhs of rupees by extending the closing time of bars from 10 pm till midnight.
“The first notification was issued asking the bars to down their shutters at 10 pm. but after three-four months, a fresh notification was issued by the Excise Department at the behest of the Minister allowing the bars to operate till 11 pm and 11.30 pm,” alleged he.
Reacting strongly to the allegations, Rout questioned the whereabouts of the Congress leader.
“Who is he (Sarkhel)IJ Who is he to level allegations against meIJ My source of income is known to the people of my constituency,” said Rout.
