Paradip Port DlR and Contract Workmen’s Association president Bapi Sarkhel has demanded puja bonus for the employees of the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) and submitted a letter with the PPT chairman to extend the benefit to all DlR workers on Monday.
He said according to the Indian Bonus Act, 1965, it is the right of all employees, labourers and workers of different companies and public sector units to get bonus, but the contractual DlR workers have been deprived of the benefit for last several years.
However, none of the labourer leaders, labourer associations or local political leaders has demanded the just due of this category workers he lamented in the letter.
It may be noted that by the efforts of Sarkhel, the salaries of the contractual workers at the IOCl depot, Goa Carbon employees and labourers working at the railway side of the Goa Carbon were recently increased by 113 per cent, 65 per cent and 75 per cent, respectively.
