Contractual lecturers of the Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya, Purion Saturday sought immediate intervention of Chancellor of Universities and Governor Dr SC Jamir in the alleged irregularities in the recruitment process for lecturer posts of the university.
“The university authorities have conducted interviews for recruitment to sanctioned lecture posts against which we have been working as Contractual lecturers for many years now. It is disappointing that the authorities did not even allow us to face interview for the posts. If the Chancellor of the Universities doesn’t intervene and stop recruitment, our career will be completely spoiled,” some Contractual lecturers told The Pioneer.
They informed that the university authorities had on July 30, 2015 published an advertisement seeking applications for lecturer posts in all departments, including Sahitya, Vedanta and Veda, for which 32 years was kept as the minimum age limit along with requisite qualifications as eligibility criteria. “The authorities fixed 32 years as minimum age for the posts while there is no such age limit either fixed by the Government or the UGC. Again, what is more deplorable is that the authorities called at least seven candidates above the age of 32 years for interview and have given an appointment letter to one of them as of now,” rued the Contractual lecturers.
Sources said the Vice-Chancellor’s son has also been recruited in the process, though aged below 32, against a sanctioned post in which a woman lecturer has been working for the last 12 years.
“The interview process was undertaken and completed when even a case is sub-judice. We have filed a case in the Orissa High Court challenging our exclusion even though we had formally applied to face interview,” lamented the victim lecturers.
