Sanskrit teachers to move court against Govt apathy

The Utkal Sanskruta Sikshak Mahasangha has threatened to move court against the State Government for showing repeated apathy in implementing suitable policy pertaining to eligibility of appointment, promotion and salary of Sanskrit teachers in secondary schools.

Announcing their decision at the union’s State-level meeting here on Monday, Mahasangha president Prafulla Kumar Sahu, acting president Satyanarayan Dash, general secretary Narasingha Jena, joint secretary Dr Gautam Maharana and advisor Ghanshyam Mishra said a High Power Committee (HPC) on November 16, 2009 had directed the authorities in the School and Mass Education department to sort out the problems of the Sanskrit teachers pertaining to salary, eligibility, promotion, and training to the under qualified. The notification in this regard had been published on September 5, 2011.

However, the authorities in the School and Mass Education Department changed some parts of the 2011 notification and brought out a notification on October 27, 2014 with changes in the eligibility criteria and salary of the Sanskrit teachers. As a result, the Government is now violating the eligibility criteria for appointment and salary it had decided earlier to pay to the Sanskrit teachers. And, recently, the Government has decided to cut the salary of the contract Sanskrit teachers.

The Mahasangha demanded that the earlier basis of appointment and pay structure to the Sanskrit teachers be not changed and that the Government roll back the October 27, 2014 notification and stick to the September 5, 2011 and June 4, 2012 notifications.

Unless the demands of the Mahasangha are fulfilled and the Government does not change its decision to cut the salary of the contract Sanskrit teachers, the union will move court against the unjust policy, warned the Mahasangha leaders.
