Amid allegations of plunder of minor minerals like sand, murram and soil in Subarnapur district, the administration has decided to take stern action against the mafia.
Subarnapur Collector Aboli Sunil Narvane has underscored the need for augmenting revenue collection and has asked the revenue officials to intensify crackdown on the people involved in illegal extraction of minor minerals by seizing their vehicles and imposing penalty on them.
It was learnt that in the current year, the revenue officials have so far seized more than 200 vehicles during raids in Sonepur sub division.
On the other hand, this is quite opposite in Birmaharajpur sub division.
A huge quantity of sand is being illegally transported to different places in the district and outside every day from here. Over 20 hywa trucks have been engaged in the transportation of sand repeatedly in a single transit pass causing loss to the tune of lakhs of rupees to the Government exchequer every day. Some Tehsil authorities have turned a blind eye on the rampant illegal mining on the river beds.
