A Revenue Inspector (RI) was thrashed by members of a sand mafia gang for opposing illegal lifting of sand in the Salebhata area in Balangir district on Thursday.
As per reports, the officials got information about illegal sand lifting from a ghat in Anga river near Murasundha area. As per the directions of the Tehsildar, Babufasad area RI Sushant Patel reached the spot to conduct a raid. They found the illegal lifting of sand and Patel started making videos of the incident.

Patel was immediately rushed to nearby Dunguripali hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.
The Tehsildar has lodged a complaint about the incident at the Salbheta police station.
Based on the complaint, an investigation into the incident has been launched. However, the accused were absconding after the incident.
