To press its longstanding demand of implementation of the Orissa Official language Act-1954, the Bhasa Suraksha Sammilani would stage a mass dharna Statewide onNovember 23.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Sammilani president and MP Baishnab Parida said dharna would be staged in front of all district Collectorates in the State and at the PMG Square here onNovember 23, the birthday of former Chief Minister Nabakrushna Choudhury, in demand of protection and promulgation of Odia language. Besides, memorandum would be given to the Chief Minister through the Collectors. Though the Act was enacted in 1954 by the then Chief Minister, it is yet to be implemented. “Even though five months have passed since the Government had declared to implement the act in July, no remarkable step has been taken yet in this regard,” he said.
