The Utkal Sammilani has demanded setting up of a full statue of freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai at VSS Nagar here.
Sammilani Mancheswar Industrial Estate branch head Dillip Dashsharma said the State Government, in March 2015, had decided to set up a 10-feet-high statue of Surendra Sai; however, no work has been done yet in this regard.
Notably, a small statue of Surendra Sai had been set up and inaugurated by Dr Harekrushna Mahtab at the VSS Nagar long back in 1978. The residents of VSS Nagar and the Utkal Sammilani had been demanding a full statue of him in the locality, following which the Culture Department had agreed to do so last year.
Dashsharma demanded that a full statue of the freedom fighter with a horse be established on the main road of VSS Nagar before his birth anniversary on January 23.
