The Odisha Bhasa Sangram Samiti has expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister, the School and Mass Education Minister and all members of the Odisha Assembly over passing of the Odia University Bill on Thursday. It may be mentioned here that as per a pact between the State Government and the Samiti, a ministerial committee’s recommendation for establishing the Odia language University was approved by the Cabinet. Earlier a meeting was organised on January 29, 2016 by the Higher Education Department and the Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies to discuss the blueprint for establishment of the university in the State.
The Government had also earlier amended the Official language Bill which was lying ineffective for last 62 years to make use of Odia as official language in all correspondences.
The Samiti demanded setting up of a language Commission, making Model Schools Odia medium and appointing more numbers of Odia teachers.
