Like others, they too spent the Valentine’s Day, but their love is totally different as both are girls and staying as each other’s companion after their marriage in court since last two years’ Monalisha Nayak (27) and her 28-year-old partner Sabitri Parida, whom she accepted as her life partner, observed the Valentine’s Day by exchanging roses and promising to remain loyal to each other facing all challenges together till their last breaths. According to Sabitri, their family members had been searching bridegrooms for them.

Monalisha telephoned her and cried to take her as she did not want to marry anyone else. They faced lots of problems from their families and the society as they belong to the same sex.

Both later fled from their houses and stayed for about a week at Cuttack.  They then made an agreement at the Notary, Kendrapada and produced it before the JMFC Court, Pattamundai and recorded their statements to stay live-in relationship.  As per the agreement, if anyone became unable to earn her livelihood, the other will maintain her. “Though earlier the society did not accept our relationship, now the situation has changed a lot in our favour,” said the duo.

“Meanwhile, Monalisha is working in a private organisation and I have opened a stationary shop at Manakarpur to earn our livelihoods. We are staying in a rented house,” said Sabitri.
