Sambhaba activists organise rally, protest farmers' suicide

Published on:

Members of the Sambhaba held a march to protest against the inaction of the State Government over farmers’ suicide from Ram Mandir Square to the lower PMG here on Monday.

Crop failure and loan burden have pushed farmers to commit suicide, but the Government is not taking any effective steps to combat drought and protect farmers, said a Sambhaba member, Rajesh Sahoo.

The members demanded adequate compensation and interest-free loan for the affected farmers.

As middlemen only want to serve their own interest, farmers should get all the benefits from the Government directly, they said. The Government should also immediately undertake repair of lift Irrigation points, they demanded.

Among others, Satyabrata Prusti, Tarakanta Nayak, Harish Panigrahi, Saumya Ranjan Mohanty, Sirajur Rehman and Nihar Priyashis led the rally.
