Demanding permanent position, as many as 43 NMR employees of the Sambalpuri Bastralaya here staged a dharna in front of the district Collectorate on Tuesday and threatened to start an indefinite stir in front of the Sambalpuri Bastralaya office here from Wednesday until their demand is not fulfilled.
The workers stated that they have presented memorandums to Chief Minister, Handloom Minister, Director and Secretary to Finance Minister, labour Director regarding their concerns, but in vein. “Over 60 temporary employees had been provided employment during 1993 to 1997. Since then, the employees have been demanding for permanent post,” said president of the NMR worker Narayan Mishra. Of the 60 employees, 43 have been continuing in their posts as temporary workers. “In the response to our several agitations, the State Government and company Managing Director had assured to consider our problems, but nothing has been done so far,” he rued.
