Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday sought an impartial probe into the death of Sambalpur student Shreyas Kesharwani (Omm) allegedly due to ragging by his friends at a private college in Visakhapatnam.
Sources said Patnaik on the day spoke to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and urged for a probe by an independent agency into the incident to unravel the truth.
Earlier, parents of the deceased student had met the Chief Minister at the State Secretariat and sought intervention of the State Government in the matter.
Notably, the Plus Two first year student was allegedly ragged and thrashed severely by a few senior students inside the hostel of Sri Chaitanya College at Visakhapatnam on December 26, 2017.
Shreyas was admitted to a hospital in Rourkela for treatment and later shifted to Bhubaneswar. He died while undergoing treatment at the hospital on January 6. His death triggered a furore and several demonstrations were held by the locals in Sambalpur demanding stringent action against the culprits.
