The members of the Inner Wheel Club of Sambalpur during the installation ceremony for the year 2017-18 have expressed their commitment to take up local social issues.
“The people of the locality are still backward and underdeveloped. Situation in slums is further precarious. Hence, it is our duty to look into the problems that the people at our door step face,” said Inner Wheel Club president Seema Satpathy.
There are many people in the town, who lack the basic facilities. School dropouts are a common affair in slums and also the lower middle class families. Open defecation is also rampant everywhere including the Mahanadi river bed and ring road. The process of child labour in hotels and other commercial organizations in the town is another common thing. “Hence, we the ladies members will concentrate on these basic things to keep the city clean and bring about an eye catching development to the slum dwellers as well as poor people,” Satpathy added.
MlA Dr Raseswari Panigrahi, who herself is also a Rotarian, participating as the chief guest expressed her pleasure looking at the commitment of the ladies for whom this Rotary Club (Inner Wheel Club) is exclusively meant for. “I assured all sorts of help from my side for these works which are badly necessary for a civilized society,” Dr Panigrahi said.
It is matter of credit for the Sambalpur town that the present governor of the Rotary District 3261 Harjit Singh is a resident of the city.
Participating in ceremony, Singh said that the sincerity of the ladies is always beyond doubt. “Hence, they will surely show something extraordinary for the service of the targeted group and thereby make a difference,” he expressed.
Secretary Mamata Agrawal was present.
