Sambalpur lawyers to intensify stir for HC Bench

Published on:

With their long standing demand for a High Court Bench in Sambalpur still to be fulfilled, the advocates here have decided to intensify their stir further to put pressure on the State Government.

“Since the Government has been lending a deaf ear to the genuine demand of the people of a vast area inhabited by crores of people, we have no other option but to take recourse in agitation,” said Sambalpur district bar association president Krushna Chandra Baboo.

“This time, we would intensify our stir from the beginning of the Assembly session at Bhubaneswar so that our concerns are heard,” said Baboo further.

“On the very day the Assembly session begins, we will close all Government offices, including judicial and revenue. The agitation will continue till the end of the Monsoon Session. However, for the greater interest of the public, banks and educational institutions would be allowed to function normally,” informed former president of the bar association Dr Pramod Rath. At the same time, a 24- hour picketing will also continue in front of the office of the RDC during all these days, he said further.

Meanwhile, members of civil society and different socio cultural organisations have urged the Government to fulfill the long standing demand of the lawyers to avoid inconveniences to be created during the stir to the common people.
